Remembering Anne Frank, who would have been 84 today
Eighty-four years ago, the celebrated diarist and tragic victim of the Holocaust Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany. During the peak of the war, when her German-Jewish family was forced into hiding in Amsterdam, she kept track of her thoughts, trials and revelations in her diary.
Eventually, her family was discovered and all save for her father Otto died in Nazi concentration camps. In 1947, Otto worked to have her diary published as a book, and since then her words have been read across the world.
Her lasting legacy may be her persistent optimism in the face of overwhelming despair. As she wrote in her diary:

It’s difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It’s a wonder I haven’t abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical.
Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart. I simply can’t build my hopes on a foundation of confusion, misery, and death. I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too, I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that this cruelty too shall end, and that peace and tranquility will return once again.

The Only Existing Video Footage of Anne Frank

On July 22, 1941, a 12-year-old girl at Merwedeplein 37 looked on as her neighbor got married.

It’s really a wonder that I haven’t dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart

Anne Frank

Anne Frank was born today in 1929. This quote is from her diary, “The Diary of a Young Girl” which was written while her family was in hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. She died in 1945 and her diary was published in 1947 by her father, Otto Frank. You can get a copy of her diary at the library.

okay i have the cutest story to tell you all so i work at a frozen yogurt shop and the people in my town aren’t typically the friendliest but anyway the woman on the right comes in and gets this huge (as you can see) cup of yogurt and by huge i mean it was around $15 so anyway she reaches in her purse to get her wallet but realized she forgot it so she asked me if she could run to her car real quick to get it. i said sure and as i was waiting for her to come back the woman on the left who was eating with her kids comes up to the register and starts digging around in her purse. i asked if she needed help with anything and she said “yes. i’d like to pay for this woman’s yogurt” and i was like what? and she repeated herself and i was like may i ask why and she said “just thought i’d do something nice for someone else” so she paid for it and the woman on the right comes back and i told her what happened and she smiled so big and looked like she was going to cry and she turns to the woman on the left and said “thank you so much. no one ever does anything nice for me and this really came at a great time” and we both asked why and she said “today is my birthday” so everyone in the store sang happy birthday to her and she turns to the woman on the left and says “i make homemade jewelry. let me make you a pair of earrings as a thank you” and they were both so happy and everyone in the store was smiling and i asked if i could take their picture and i got this :’) humanity is not lost!

It is a common misconception that the ‘L’ in Samuel L Jackson’s name is an abbreviation of his middle name. In actuality, It is a roman numeral, signifying that he is the 50th descendant in the line of Samuel Jacksons, who have guarded our race since the ancient times.
